Non-Union Employee Benefits

Vital resources for our vital resources.

A healthy working relationship requires give and take. Since BNSF Railway employees give so much of themselves when they're on the job, we thought it only fair that they be able to take advantage of excellent benefits. Here's a quick snapshot of the benefit package currently being enjoyed by corporate and management (non-union) employees at BNSF Railway:

401(k) Plan
Employees are eligible the first day of the month after 30 days of service and can contribute up to 25% of earnings. The basic company matched is 50% on 6% of pre-tax contributions and an additional year-end match based on Company performance. The performance match is up to 30% on the firs 6% of contributions.

Health Insurance
BNSF Railway provides four health plan options: High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO), and Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). Employees can select the plan they prefer provided it is offered in the area they live. Each plan has different coverage levels and price tags

Prescription Drugs
In the PPO and EPO plans, employees have the choice of paying a percentage of the cost of the medication (with limits) or paying a set copayment amount. Employees may purchase their medications via mail order and pay a reduced amount. HMO's have their own prescription benefits and the HDHP covers prescriptions like any other medical expense

Dental Insurance
A PPO Dental plan is offered through Aetna nationwide. A Dental Maintenance Organization (DMO) plan is offered to specific locations.

Life Insurance
BNSF Railway pays 100% of basic life insurance for the employee. Coverage is two times the employee's benefits pay (base salary plus target ICP).

Optional Life Insurance is available up to 5 times benefits pay. Employees may also purchase child and spouse life insurance.

Long Term Disability
BNSF Railway covers 50% of benefits pay at no cost. LTD benefits begin following 182 consecutive days of disability. Employees may elect to increase the LTD option to 66 2/3% of benefits pay.

Vision Plan
Two options are available. Both options cover eye examinations, lenses, and frames or contact lenses.

Short Term Disability
BNSF Railway provides 100% base-salary continuation, for up to 182 days of disability.

Tuition Reimbursement Program
Employees are eligible for this program after completing 6 months of service

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
Employees can set aside money from paychecks on a before-tax basis to pay for eligible health care and dependent childcare expenses.

Personal Accident Insurance
This option provides accidental death and dismemberment benefits for you and your dependents; up to 7 times benefits pay available.

BNSF Railway Company Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP)
Rewards employees based on the Company's performance.

BNSF Railway Retirement Plan
You are automatically covered after one year of service. You must have 5 years of service to be vested in the Plan. To qualify for early retirement you must be 55 years-old with 10 years of vesting service; full retirement benefits are at age 65, or at age 62 with no less than 30 years of service.

Railroad Retirement (RRB)
Provides an annuity similar to Social Security with increased benefits from Tier II taxes. Employees are vested with their RRB benefit after 60 months of railroad service.

Retiree Life Insurance
Employees retiring from non-union service receive $10,000 in Company paid retiree life insurance.
