Mechanical

In the Mechanical department, you can directly supervise shop craft employees to safely and efficiently accomplish locomotive and/or freight car work assignments and goals as directed and according to company policy and labor agreements. Managers also ensure that proper materials and tools are used, and report on mechanical aspects of failures and other emergency conditions related to locomotives and freight cars. Additionally, you will oversee various locomotive/car maintenance, repair, inspections and servicing operations.

Work in the Mechanical Department is primarily on shifts that could include nights, weekends, evenings and holidays, on call or available for emergency situations. Employees work mostly indoors in a shop environment.

The Mechanical Department is approximately 6,500 employees strong.

Mechanical Management Trainee Overview

Location
Any location across the BNSF System. BNSF is located in the 28 most western states.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

This is a 12-month to 18-month program. The first two weeks is a comprehensive orientation with corporate officers, followed by an assignment to a mechanical facility on the BNSF system. This assignment will include:

Repair shop orientation with craftspeople and supervisors
Technical training both in the field and at our Technical Training Center
Shadowing mechanical staff groups including locomotive, car, lean manufacturing, and mechanical engineering
Shadowing other staff work groups including Engineering and Transportation

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in either Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or an MBA with emphasis in Engineering
Must have strong leadership skills with excellent oral and written communication skills
