Transportation

The Transportation Department is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of trains and the movement of customer freight from one destination to another. Transportation employees supervise train operations in a designated territory and provide customers with safe, efficient and economical service. They ensure the divisional plans are executed, monitored and in compliance by applying rules, regulations and policies.

Work in the Transportation Department is a 24/7 operations environment including nights, weekends, evenings and holidays, on call or available for emergency situations. Employees work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

The Transportation Department is approximately 19,000 employees strong.

Transportation Management Trainee Overview

Location
Any location across the BNSF System. BNSF is located in the 28 most western states.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Technical training both in the field and at our Technical Training Center
  • Manage railroad terminal operations; moving traffic to and from interchange points
  • Supervise track maintenance crews
  • Supervise, monitor and inspect the maintenance of locomotives and freight cars

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with emphasis in Transportation, Engineering, Logistics or Business Management
  • Must have strong leadership skills with excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Operations Internship experience

Working Conditions

  • Office and field environment
  • Hours are irregular with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • 24/7 Operation; night, weekend and holiday work required.
