You can be a part of the BNSF Marketing team that is responsible for creating and maintaining successful customer relationships. We work together to develop, promote, and maintain rail services that offer customers the best value for their transportation dollar.

We look for individuals who are analytical, strategic, build solid customer relationships, have an aptitude of learning, demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, and are dedicated to excellence.

  • Marketing/Sales
    • Business Unit Marketing is made up of four major commodity groups: Agriculture, Coal, Consumer Products, and Industrial Products. Inside each commodity group, our Marketing & Sales team is dedicated to working with new and existing customers. Typical career opportunities in Business Unit Marketing include:

    • Marketing

      Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts develop and implement marketing and pricing strategies based on competitive and economic conditions, geographic analysis, and customer surveys, prospect for and develop new business opportunities, and create solid business plans.

    • Sales

      Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts develop business relationships with new and existing customers, execute sales strategies to grow revenue and profits, and create and implement total transportation solutions to expand BNSF's position in our customers' supply chains.

  • Marketing Support
    • Our front-line Marketing & Sales team has significant support from the Marketing Support group, which provides the strategies, tools, and resources needed to be successful with our customers. Typical career opportunities in Marketing Support include:

    • Customer Support

      Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts provide proactive monitoring and manage service exceptions to customer shipments and develop processes and measures to maximize customer satisfaction and loyalty.

    • Customer Intelligence (CRM)

      Directors and Managers handle BNSF's CRM system, which houses customer demographics and intelligence and facilitates the pre and post-sales process.

    • Business Process Management

      Director and Managers develop and enhance our cross-functional processes to ensure effective operations and drive increased value to our customers.

    • Economic Development

      Directors and Regional Managers develop and implement plans that connect profitable industries to the BNSF network through coordination with the business units, transloaders, customers, developers, real estate brokers, site consultants, and state and local officials.

    • Financial Analysis

      Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts plan and forecast short and long-range business unit volume and revenue activity, provide variance and price/mix analysis, and develop and maintain analytical tools and decision support systems for the business units.

    • Marketing Communications, Customer Listening & Events

      Directors and Managers create effective and targeted customer communication campaigns and events and manage customer listening/feedback vehicles to drive value-added action and deepen customer relationship strategies.

    • Market Research, Marketing Systems, & Opportunity Management

      Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts work with Marketing & Sales to provide market and customer intelligence that generates actionable insight to support marketing and sales initiatives; with work with Service Design and Operations to quickly and thoroughly evaluate and qualify new business opportunities that drive profitable growth at BNSF; and with Technology Services to design and implement technology systems and tools to support Marketing, Service Design, and Business Unit Operations.

    • Mexico Business Unit

      Directors and Managers develop and execute sales and customer service strategies in Mexico, maintain relationships with government and industry entities in Mexico, and manage Border Clearance/Processes.

  • Business Unit Operations
    • BNSF is the world's largest domestic intermodal provider. Business Unit Operations manages our intermodal hubs and facilities and the equipment, capital, and asset utilization that make it possible to handle over eight million containers every year at 31 hub and 16 port facilities on the BNSF network. Typical career opportunities in Business Unit Operations include:

    • Hub and Facility Operations

      Directors, Managers, and Project Managers coordinate and execute intermodal hub and automotive ramp operating plans to maximize safety, customer satisfaction, on-time performance, efficiency, velocity, and asset utilization.

    • Equipment Utilization

      Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts develop and execute plans to manage system-wide rail equipment utilization, meet customer demand, and reduce expenses.

    • Planning

      Director, Managers, and Senior Analysts develop and maintain a capacity measurement system to evaluate expansion/improvement alternatives for intermodal and automotive facilities to ensure capacity meets projected business demands.
