Clerk Administrative (Various)

Overview: The position will be responsible for coverage of the following: (1) responding to questions from employees and/or customers; (2) identifying and implementing solutions; (3) interpreting information and applying rules and agreements; (4) initiating and processing correspondence via various communication channels; (5) investigating and adjusting claims and billing disputes; and (6) maintaining confidential information.

Salary/Benefits: Entry pay rate varies by location. Employees receive an annual benefit package valued at $22,000. The terms of the collective bargaining agreement shall apply.

Typing Requirement: This position requires successful candidates to take and pass a typing test, administered through BNSF.

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BNSF is a drug-free company and employees will be subject to random drug tests.
  • Willing to submit to an employment, criminal and driving background review.
  • Available to work in the geographic area indicated.
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.
  • Available to work a 40-hour work week subject to overtime and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Able to type, without errors, at the required speed as indicated by the job posting.
  • Minimum of 1 year of verifiable training and/or work experience in an administrative function within an office environment.
  • Able to handle multiple projects and duties simultaneously, accurately input data into computer systems and sit for long periods of time.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point and Access) and have used it in school and/or at work.
  • Minimum of 1 year of verifiable training and/or work experience resolving internal and/or external customer issues via telephone and/or email correspondence.

Probationary Period

60 days.

Training

Company paid on-the-job training is provided.

Work Conditions

Indoor, office environment.

Travel

Minimal.

Shifts/Hours

Railroad operations are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Some of the above positions are scheduled for an 8-hour daytime shift Monday through Friday, with possible mandatory overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed. However, some of the positions require work hours in the evening, night and weekends. Work weeks are 40 hours per week; shifts are governed by union agreement and subject to seniority.

Dues

Per the collective bargaining agreement, union membership and monthly dues are required.
