View Pictures of BNSF's Locomotive in Vancouver to White Rock Event
2010-02-18
Nearly everybody loves a train, and the presence of a new BNSF locomotive, coupled with British Columbia's Royal Hudson Steam Train, pleased the crowds at Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics events.
Pictured here, the Royal Hudson traveled BNSF track pulling four vintage rail cars with
passengers from Vancouver, British Columbia, to White Rock, as reported in BNSF News prior to the event.
Staged near the Peace Arch border, where the Olympic Torch Relay event was held, the locomotive and steam train drew large crowds and provided a picturesque backdrop to Winter Games activities.
The train attracted thousands of curious onlookers between Vancouver and the Canadian/U.S. border. The train's trip was covered by national media, including Chinese media, and appeared on national Canadian television. Olympians and torch bearers posed in front of the Royal Hudson and BNSF locomotive for numerous photo shoots while people from countries around the world also took souvenir pictures.
The new orange locomotive glistened in the sunlight as Canadian dignitaries praised BNSF's effort to make British Columbia's Winter Festival and kickoff for the Olympics a huge success. As the train pulled into the White Rock Station, bands played and balloons flew.
Many Olympic participants said the drama of viewing the steam train as a backdrop for the Torch Relay surpassed all other activities.
