BNSF Special Visits Locations in Tennessee and Alabama
2010-06-14
The final full weekend of the 2010 BNSF Special mirrored the joy and excitement of previous trips as BNSF employees, their families and special guests filled the 15 vintage cars in Memphis, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala. Passengers at each location appreciated the scenic beauty offered from the unique vantage point of the train.
"This was very special for them to see," said BNSF Locomotive Engineer Nathan Bowers, a nine-year employee, who was joined by his wife Wendy and two young children on the Thursday afternoon trip in Memphis. "This is the area I travel regularly at work, and it's good for my family to see and understand what I actually do for the railroad."
In addition to providing a memorable train ride for employees and their families, the BNSF Special recognizes the contribution of community organizations in the cities it visits. During the Memphis trip, The BNSF
Foundation hosted a special event and made a contribution to the Lorraine Civil Rights Museum.
"It's such a big part of the Memphis community. It represents the diversity of Memphis and there's so much good they do for the community, "said Ryan Shoener, BNSF terminal superintendant.
The 2010 BNSF Special will continue this week with scheduled stops in Amory, Miss.; Chaffee, Mo.; St. Louis; West Quincy, Mo.; and Brookfield, Mo.
