Two Children of BNSF Employees Receive National Merit Scholar Honors

A student from Minnesota and a student from Texas were selected as 2010 BNSF National Merit Scholarship winners.

The two students are:

• Devon C. Sandberg, son of Tim Sandberg, general clerk, of St. Paul, Minn.
• Weston A. Fountain, son of Sandra Fountain, senior systems developer II, of Azle, Texas

Each student receives an annual $5,000 grant renewable for up to four years of undergraduate college education from the BNSF Foundation Scholarship Program.

Winners of Merit Scholarship awards are selected based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments, including academic record, school curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, school officials' written recommendation, the student's activities and leadership and the finalist's own essay.
