BNSF Donates Pallets of Water to Firefighters in Flagstaff, Ariz.

2010-06-28

While 800 firefighters battle blazes covering an estimated 15,000 acres, Southwest Division employees stepped up to help.

Employees donated two pallets of water - about 3,600 bottles - to help rehydrate the overheated heroes.

Terry Brooks, supervisor, Signal, said the first pallet was delivered to firemen just as another organization brought in box lunches.

"They really appreciated the water to go with lunch," Brooks said.

The fire is believed to have started as a result of an abandoned, still smoldering campfire. Crews have managed to save endangered homes, but high temperatures have taken their toll.

"They're the heroes," Brooks said. "We're just happy to do something to help."
