New External Website Launches May 17

BNSF on May 17 rolled out an entirely redesigned external website with updated, simplified content and new, animated graphics that reflect the BNSF brand.

The simplified site focuses specifically on helping customers find information within a couple of mouse clicks.

"Our primary audience for bnsf.com is our customer base," said John Lanigan, executive vice president and chief marketing officer. "The new site includes the same tools customers used in the past as well as enhanced tools and navigation."

For example, a variety of system map designs were found on the former bnsf.com. The new design has a single, consistent map design with layers that display information based on commodity or type of shipment.

A virtual train tour is another new feature. The tour explains the variety of railcars and commodities handled on the railroad, as well as details about locomotives, rail and signals. The new feature will raise awareness of the environmental, safety and service benefits of BNSF and the overall rail industry.

"We wanted to provide more information to people interested in the railroad industry and BNSF, including people in the communities we serve, public policy makers, the media and others," said John Ambler, vice president, Corporate Relations. "For instance, the section devoted to communities should make it easier for people to learn about the positive impact we have on their communities and to find answers to their questions."

For employees and retirees, the new design means separate Web pages. As always, employees can use the internal portal -- employee.bnsf.com -- as their primary source of information about the company and their work. The Employee tab on bnsf.com provides an easy link to login to the portal.
