Former President of Mexico Visits BNSF Corporate Headquarters
2010-10-07
Former President Vicente Fox of Mexico paid a visit to the main Fort Worth campus on Oct. 4 as part of his effort to focus on "building bridges, not walls" with Mexico's neighbor to the north.
President Fox's visit to BNSF was scheduled after employees learned that President Fox
would be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dr. Juan Hernandez, an expert in immigration issues and a Fort Worth native, coordinated the "greet" with President Fox and Matt Rose, BNSF's chairman, president and chief executive officer, and other executives. Hernandez has been a "Coffee Break Champion" and guest of the Hispanic Leadership Council. Hernandez is currently working on a joint project to establish a local not-for-profit organization that awards educational scholarships to deserving Latinos.
President Fox also spoke to the BNSF management team and invited guests of the Hispanic Leadership Council and Women's Network. His comments focused primarily on topics of mutual interest to Mexico and BNSF, such as the economy and education. He also touched on his presidential library, Centro Fox, and its ties to the U.S. and to Georgetown University.
BNSF sponsored a reception and dinner for President Fox that was attended by local political and business leaders. BNSF also presented him with a pewter locomotive as a token of BNSF's appreciation for his efforts to improve U.S.-Mexico relations and for his commitment to the railroad industry.
