Here's the latest on union/railroad negotiations.

UTU Ratifies National Contract

On Friday, Sept. 2, the members of our largest union, the United Transportation Union (UTU), ratified a new national contract with the nation's largest railroads, including BNSF.

Railroads Disappointed with NMB Decision to End Mediation

The National Carriers' Conference Committee (NCCC) issued the following statement on the decision by the National Mediation Board to release two coalitions representing 11 unions from federal mediation with the nation's largest railroads. A. Kenneth Gradia, chairman of the NCCC, the railroads' bargaining representative said, "We are extremely disappointed by the Board's decision to end mediation." He goes on to say, "Their (the Rail Labor Bargaining Coalition and the Transportation Communications Union) intransigence undermines not only current negotiations, but also the time-honored process used to reach voluntary agreements in the rail industry."
