Community Members and Employees Enjoy San Bernardino Railroad Days
2012-04-30
Community members, as well as local BNSF employees and their families, went back in time to the Wild West recently at the Fourth Annual San Bernardino Railroad Days.
The event was held at the Santa Fe Depot at the San Bernardino History and Railroad Museum and focused on the area's heritage and close ties with the Santa Fe Railway, a BNSF predecessor. Several thousand people attended.
Attendees could view BNSF displays, photographic and model train exhibits and antique motor vehicles. A low-emission locomotive was among the equipment on display at the event. Signal and dispatcher employees once again had a booth to help area residents understand the work they do. The Signal team also provided a display to illustrate how grade-crossing signals work and to reinforce the importance of obeying grade-crossing safety laws. Employees also manned an Operation Lifesaver booth.
"Railroad Days provides an opportunity to remind us of the ties between the railroad and our community," said Mark Kirschinger, general manager, California Division. "We are glad to be in San Bernardino and to be able to celebrate Railroad Days with our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers."
