Enter the GoRail Essay Contest for a Chance to Win a Trip to Railroad Day on the Hill!

For the sixth straight year, industry advocacy group GoRail is inviting BNSF and other rail industry employees to submit essays for the chance to win a trip to Washington, D.C., and participate in Railroad Day on Capitol Hill.

In 250 words or less, write an essay from one of the suggested topics below and send it to lmcnichol@gorail.org by 6 p.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 20.

Topics include:

• What would you tell your senator or representative about freight rail
• Describe how freight rail is making a positive impact on communities, economic development and jobs
• Or, any other freight rail observation that expresses your enthusiasm and knowledge of the industry today

The 2012 Railroad Day on Capitol Hill is Thursday, March 8. Travel will occur March 7-9.

Rules

Only one essay per employee may be submitted per GoRail guidelines. Essays must be 250 words or less and include the following contact information:

• Name,
• Company,
• Email address,
• Phone number,
• Street address.

Submissions that omit any of the required information will be excluded from the 2012 contest. The expense-paid trip includes hotel, airfare, ground transportation and meals.

Good luck! Past BNSF winners include Ron Montano, a traveling mechanic from Pueblo, Colo.; Gregg Shaffer, a car accounting specialist from Topeka, Kan.; Patrick Flynn, a dispatcher at the Kansas City Regional Operations Center; and Donna Parr, a clerk on the Gulf Division in Spring, Texas.

The Association of American Railroads, American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association Inc., Railway Supply Institute, Railway Systems Suppliers Inc., and Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association organize Railroad Day on the Hill.
