World's Leading Ocean Carriers Attend BNSF University Next Generation Intermodal

BNSF hosted another in a series of BNSF University sessions May 21-23 in Grapevine, Texas, and May 24-25 in Chicago. The concentration was on Next Generation Intermodal.

More than 30 customers from a wide range of companies - such as OOCL, NYK, Hyundai, MOL, Maersk and more -- attended this week-long event to learn best practices for Next Generation Intermodal and to discuss future trends in the global trade market.

This unique educational opportunity provided attendees with the latest information and technologies to help enhance their role in the supply chain. The university curriculum included classroom sessions on a wide range of topics. Grapevine "students" had the opportunity to take field trips to BNSF's Alliance intermodal facility, the J.C. Penney distribution center and BNSF headquarters. Chicago attendees were able to take tours of Logistics Park Chicago and our Corwith facilities.

"We designed this curriculum to help customers better understand how intermodal shipping may best suit some of their needs," said Fred Malesa, vice president, International Intermodal Marketing. "We were pleased at the exchange of ideas and discussion generated through the class sessions."

Positive feedback from customers is already being received.

"Just wanted to say thank you for all your help and the opportunity to participate in the University classes/tours," said Robert Hyatt, Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. "All the materials/speakers were very informative and I gained a better understanding of how BNSF operates. I will definitely be using what I've learned in the future."

As part of BNSF's commitment to continuing customer education, BNSF will also develop extended education courses for customers' commercial sales and operations teams overseas.
