Patriot Award Given to BNSF for Support at Havelock Shop

Ward Greisen, BNSF Havelock shop superintendent, accepted the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award in recognition of his outstanding support to Specialist Justin Metcalf, 1167th Brigade Support Company, Nebraska Army National Guard.

Metcalf, a BNSF carman who had deployed to Iraq, said the culture at the Havelock Shops was one of concern and care for deploying service members. He said Greisen's philosophy was to ensure a seamless return to work after deployment.

The award was presented by Col. (Ret.) Dennis Hayward, who noted that BNSF's stellar support over the years makes it one of the most military-friendly companies in the nation.

Maj. Gen. Judd Lyons, Nebraska adjutant general, also commented on the total package of support received by service members who work for BNSF. He also provided some insight into the leadership qualities of Metcalf, in his role as a personal security detail member for the brigade commander while on deployment.
