Chris Matthews named AVP, Operations Support

Chris Matthews has been named to the newly created position of assistant vice president (AVP), Operations Support, reporting to Mark Schulze, vice president, Safety, Training and Operations Support.

In this role, Matthews will help leverage existing and lead emerging Operations technology projects.

Matthews served in the U.S. Army for five years as an armored cavalry officer. He then worked for Boeing as a financial analyst and for A. T. Kearney, the worldwide management consulting firm, where he spent 11 years, the last several as a principal in the firm.

While at Kearney, Matthews served as a senior leader in the transportation practice, focused on operational improvement at industrial companies including railroads and airlines as well as aerospace and defense. One of his assignments included leading a team that helped establish BNSF's Maintenance Excellence program in Engineering, designed to increase productivity, planning and coordination among Engineering, Transportation and other departments at BNSF.

Matthews has a bachelor's degree in international relations and systems engineering from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, and an MBA with concentration in finance and operations from the University of Texas.

Matthews resides in Plano, Texas, with his wife and four children.
