Friends of BNSF achieves 40,000-member milestone
2013-07-31
Friends of BNSF has achieved a new milestone - 40,000 registered members.
Friends of BNSF is a special members-only website for rail advocates and BNSF enthusiasts. A number of BNSF employees and retirees, as well as family members, have also signed up. Established in September 2011, the site offers its members access to company updates, videos, photos, historic articles and free downloads.
"We launched the Friends of BNSF community as a way to establish a connection with people who are interested in or feel an affinity toward our company. We are pleased that the site has attracted so many followers," said Zak Andersen, vice president, Corporate Relations. "The website celebrates our company's history and ties it all together with the contribution BNSF makes to the U.S. economy and way of life today."
Over the past two years, many new interactive features have been added to the website, including features that enable members to submit photos and vote on articles.
Recent examples of stories shared on Friends of BNSF include profiles of Arthur Mitchell, a BNSF section foreman who donates his spare time to help the Colorado Railroad Museum preserve historic rail equipment, and Darryl Woods, a BNSF carman who used his talent as a painter to promote safety on the job.
Upcoming articles will include a look at "Sparky," BNSF's firefighting railcar, and a collection of historic photos of the Harvey Girls.
