BNSF Special update: Train rolls through Southwest

2013-06-18

The BNSF Special is rolling through the Southwest after taking nearly 6,200 people - employees, retirees, their families and special guests - on rides through Tuesday, June 18.

The annual event recognizes employees for their contributions to BNSF's success with three-hour train rides on vintage BNSF business cars.

"We've had great weather, enthusiastic crowds and outstanding support from the Operations team at each location for this year's event," said Joe Faust, director, Public Affairs. "Everyone is having a great time."

In addition to employees, retirees and family members, youth who participate in select Boys & Girls Clubs and Big Brothers Big Sisters programs have also been invited to participate.

"Thank you so very much for a wonderful and delightful time on the train. More than 250 young people from the West Contra Costa Salesian Boys & Girls Club certainly enjoyed the experience--for many of them a first time train ride," said Nick Reina, executive director, West Contra Costa Salesian Boys & Girls Club. "I want to especially thank you and your crew for the wonderful job in hosting our young people with our club counselors and some of their parents. It was truly a wonderful experience of meeting men and women dedicated to helping young people in the various communities in which the BNSF operates."

The BNSF Special started in New Mexico, and traveled to Arizona before arriving in California. The special train is in Stockton, Calif., on June 18. The BNSF Special has stops planned in Bakersfield, Los Angeles and San Bernardino.
