BNSF recognized for support of minority-owned business

2013-06-18

BNSF was one of 49 corporations and public-sector agencies recently recognized for support of minority-owned businesses in North Texas.

The Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council hosted the Fifth Annual BUY THOSE THAT BUY USTM recognition breakfast honoring executives, chief procurement officers and supplier diversity professionals. This year's honorees showed their continued commitment to the inclusion of minority businesses with a reported spend of more than $17.8 billion.

LeighAnn Vernon, director, Strategic Sourcing, and Lynn Baker, manager, Strategic Sourcing, represented BNSF at the event.

During the past decade, BNSF's annual spend with diverse suppliers has grown to more than $400 million.

"Minority- and women-owned businesses are important to companies like BNSF as they provide new approaches and ideas for how we conduct business. But beyond that, we believe our support of minority-owned businesses, combined with those of other corporations and agencies, is making a difference in the overall economic growth and development of North Texas," said Paul Bischler, vice president and chief sourcing officer. "We will continue to work to improve business opportunities for minority-, woman- and veteran-owned businesses."
