Mexico Business Unit Buys Mattresses for Mexican Shelter
2007-02-13
The BNSF Mexico Business Unit late last year was able to complete a couple of charitable projects. In October 2006, the group refurbished a care facility for children with Down Syndrome in Monterrey, Mexico.
Funds remaining from BNSF donations to that project allowed the group to purchase about 20 mattresses for a Cuernavaca shelter that houses and helps educate battered young women. During a visit to the Catholic church-sponsored home, members of the Mexico group learned that mattresses topped their list of needs.
Mattresses were ordered and their arrival happened to coincide with a December Mexico Business Unit meeting that included Paul Anderson, vice president, Marketing Support, and Denis Smith, vice president, Industrial Products Marketing. Following the meeting, the entire team took the opportunity to visit the home, meet the young women who live there, and unpack and put the mattresses in place.
"I am pleased that through the generosity of Team BNSF we are able to share our success as a company by helping underprivileged people in the communities we serve," says Richard Miller, assistant vice president, BNSF Mexico Business.
"The Mexico Business Unit has done a good job of identifying needs in that country and we are committed to continue helping in meaningful ways," says Anderson.
