2008-02-21

BNSF and the Renaissance Cultural Center hosted the Ninth Annual "Technology Awareness Day 2008" (TAD) on Saturday, Feb. 16, at BNSF’s Technology Office Building in Fort Worth. The program attracted more than 300 high school students who wanted to explore career opportunities in engineering and technology. The day’s activities included hands-on instruction in use of the Internet, digital photography as well as BNSF’s locomotive simulator.

Other prominent national participants included AT&T, Cisco Systems, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, SUN MicroSystems, Teradata and Wabtec Railway Services. In addition, recruiters from nearly 20 colleges including the University of North Texas, Tarrant County College, Grambling University, Florida A&M University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Southern University and more were available to discuss the application and financial aid process with interested students.

TAD 2008’s featured speaker was Pinnacle Technical Resources CEO Nina Vaca. Newy Scruggs, popular NBC-TV network affiliate sports news anchor, was the master of ceremonies.

More than 130 BNSF employees volunteered to support TAD, making a significant contribution to the overwhelming success of the program.
