Employees Go Above and Beyond in Helping Accident Victims
2008-12-15
Welders Tony Robello and Mike Anson, Needles Subdivision, were out working in early November when they happened on a one-vehicle accident in a remote area along National Trails Highway (also known as Old Route 66).
The area has little traffic, and the incident occurred on a bridge. While some people might have been inclined to simply call 911 and keep going, Robello and Anson went the extra mile in comforting the victims: three adult women and a 15-day-old baby boy.
One of the women couldn’t get out of the car, so one of the men stayed with her, leaving her only long enough to clear the roadway of debris.
The two welders moved their vehicle, with lights flashing, to block the guard rail that was out in the middle of the road to prevent yet another accident. Robert Coronado, safety assistant, California Division South, arrived to help. He flagged passing traffic as Robello and Anson moved the debris out of the road. Coronado also had one of the women sit with the infant in his vehicle for safety and to help ease the trauma of the incident.
About an hour later, the California Highway Patrol arrived. It was still another 15-20 minutes before the first emergency medical technicians arrived.
“If anything like this were to happen to any of my family members, I could only hope that people such as this would be there for my family,” Coronado said of Anson and Robello.
