Engineering Production Gangs Achieve High Performance

2008-12-29

Some Engineering production gangs are the railroad equivalent of most valuable players (MVPs). They stay focused, perform in all kinds of weather and continue to run up the scoreboards in efficiency and cost effectiveness.

“These top gangs have really been impressive this 2008 work season,” said Greg Dunaway, director, maintenance planning and support. “They have managed to put up big numbers in all kinds of weather and conditions while staying focused and getting the job done safely. We are very proud of their performance.”

The leaders are RP06 (rail production), TP07 (tie production) and SC30 (surface production).

Rail production gangs

The top three rail production gangs turned in impressive performances and were well below the cost per unit goal.

RP06, the leader, is at 124 percent of plan.

“We have a team effort including Transportation, Signal, Roadway Equipment and the district people who have all contributed to our success,” said Myron Rau, gang leader.

Second and third places follow:

  • RP07 had a 121 percent performance against plan; led by Guy Weatherly.
  • RP11 had performed 111 percent against plan; led by Karl Carson.

Tie production gangs

On the tie production side, TP07, led by Matt Heinbaugh, achieved 110 percent performance against plan.

Second and third places follow:

  • TP08 gang, led by Neal Criswell, was also impressive at 110 percent performance against plan.
  • TP01, led by William Sneed, was performing at 104 percent against plan.

Surfacing gangs

The top surfacing gang, SC30, headed by Lloyd Ihde, achieved 106 percent against plan.

Second and third places follow:

  • SC29, led by James White, performed at 100 percent against plan.
  • SC31, led by John Diipla, performed at 91 percent against plan.

Thanks to all of these gangs for their hard work and attention to efficiency.
