BNSF Network Operations
Affected by Midwest flooding

The following sub-divisions on BNSF have been taken out of service. These sub-divisions are mostly within the State of Iowa and where our railroad parallels the Mississippi River. These outages cause a significant number of trains to be rerouted which impacts the entire network.

-Hannibal Sub
-Des Moines Sub
-East end of the Bayard Sub
-River Sub
-Ottumwa Sub

Our operations team is working heroically to raise the mainline tracks in the Ft. Madison area in order to keep this portion of the Transcon open. However,
providing the necessary access while our maintenance teams are working on the rails obviously reduces the number of trains that can travel over this key part of our railroad and, therefore, reduces the overall available capacity for all of the rerouted trains. Rerouting of BNSF and foreign line trains will challenge resources (crews, slots, etc.) across the BNSF network.

-The Grain Desk is working will the Transportation Team to prioritize our customer traffic to avoid shutdowns and product outages. It is, therefore, critical that our customers keep the Grain Desk informed of your needs.
-Transit times will be impacted due to alternate routings.
-Customers should not expect a normal railroad operation until some time during the first half of July.

Please contact the Grain Desk (800-234-9396) with any specific questions regarding how these outages will impact your business.
