Residual Water in Covered Hoppers

There have been some recent instances of grain in covered hoppers arriving at destination with damaged product due to the presence of excessive residual water in the cars. It appears that these incidents occurred when hatches were open in preparation for loading and/or as cars were being loaded during periods of heavy rain.

To reduce the risk for lading damage due to water in a car, we strongly suggest you do a thorough inspection to ensure cars are free of residual water prior to loading and minimize the time hatches are open to the elements.
