Wheat Rates

In response to requests for more definition around deferred wheat rates, BNSF will post wheat rates through the summer of 2010 in the coming weeks. These publications will allow shippers to protect the posted rates against their shuttle purchases. The publications will include some increases over this 1½ year time period to account for potential changes in market conditions. 2009 new crop changes (June 1 for southern origins and August 1 for northern origins) will include an $80 increase on shuttles (standard cars) and a $130 increase on non-shuttle shipments (standard cars). High capacity cars will continue to be published at a 9% premium to standard cars. Changes to combination items will be applied to origin rates except for Minneapolis where $80 will apply to the destination rate and the difference to the origin rate. January 1, 2010 documents will include additional adjustments of the same magnitude.
