BNSF Enhances Web Tracing Tools for Customers

FORT WORTH, Texas, January 3, 2001:

The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today announced it has added features to the Custom Tracing section of its Web site.

BNSF's Custom Tracing gives customers up-to-the-minute online tracing information for their shipments. Up to 300 units can be traced at once by entering the railcar, container or trailer number. In addition, automotive customers can track individual vehicles by their vehicle identification numbers (VINs).

"Our goal is to provide customers with solutions to problems before they even know they exist," says Lonnie Wilson, assistant vice president, Customer Solutions. "These are all value-added services we offer our customers to make doing business with BNSFeasier."

Customers can go to bnsf.com, select "Tracing Tools," "Custom Tracing," and then enter the equipment or vehicle identification numbers and find the following new features:

• Bad Order Code — informs customers if the equipment has a mechanical defect, allowing customers to plan for any shipment delays.
• Waybill Errors — alerts customers that there may be errors in their billing and allow them to make any necessary corrections to avoid delays.
• Lot and Row Location — informs shippers of the location of their trailer or container in any one of BNSF's 35 intermodal facilities.
• Storage Due Date — tells customers the day storage charges begin for rail equipment stored at any of BNSF's intermodal yards.
• Next Event — assists customers in planning their transportation services by telling them the next scheduled event according to the shipment's servicescheduling plan.
• Goal Date and Time — is the BNSF operating goal for shipment delivery.
