BNSF Adds Trailer Rates to ValueTrax
FORT WORTH, Texas, February 15, 2001:
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today announced it has added rates for rail-controlled trailers to its ValueTrax program.
ValueTrax is an Internet-based program that offers shippers weekly transportation specials for intermodal service in select lanes. It gives shippers significant savings in lanes where BNSF has excess capacity. Specials are updated and posted on BNSF’s Web site at www.bnsf.com/specials each Thursday. Interested parties can register at the site to receive weekly ValueTrax updates by e-mail. Participants can now use 45- or 48-foot rail-controlled trailers and NACS containers, and tender loads to BNSF through a participating intermodal marketing company (IMC) or full-truckload carrier.
“Since its inception in April 2000, ValueTrax has exceeded our expectations, averaging about 100 loads per week,” said Ed Zajac, assistant vice president, IMC Marketing. “This expansion gives shippers a broader equipment offering and additional lanes with rates discounted as much as 10 to 15 percent in some cases.”
Headquartered in Fort Worth, BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF moved more than 3.4 million containers and trailers in 2000 through its extensive network of 35 intermodal hubs and intermodal market extension facilities.
