BNSF Posts Rates for Intermodal Service on the Internet
FORT WORTH, Texas, July 9, 2001:
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today announced it has posted to the Internet ramp-to-ramp rates for intermodal service in more than 200 of its lanes at http://bnsf.railprices.com. The rates posted here are the only domestic and full truckload rates BNSF offers in these lanes.
In addition, BNSF has eliminated minimum revenue commitments associated with these rates. Shippers who can organize drayage and agree to terms outlined in BNSF’s Intermodal Service User Agreement, now have direct access to BNSF.
“By making our intermodal prices public, we hope to demonstrate to the greater shipping community that intermodal transportation is truly a cost-effective alternative to over-the-road transportation,” said Ed Zajac, assistant vice president, IMC and Truckload Marketing. “Because we are eliminating minimums, shippers have the option to do business directly with BNSF, or use the information posted on this Web site as a resource in making informed decisions on how they spend their transportation dollars.”
A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE: BNI), BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. In 2000, BNSF moved more than 3.5 million containers and trailers through its extensive network of 35 intermodal hubs, making it the largest intermodal carrier in the world.
