BNSF Launches Real-Time Tracking and Tracing eTool
FORT WORTH, Texas, August 22, 2001:
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today launched a new eTool designed to enable customers to get real-time tracking and tracing data about their shipments.
Called Customer Logistics System (CLS), this eTool provides BNSF customers complete access to all relevant information about each of their shipments while it moves on the BNSF network. Customers use CLS to pick what information is important to them and build customized reports with their specific track and trace information. Customers can also store their report templates on the secured CLS application so that they can be managed, modified or deleted as needed any time, day or night.
“We learned that 85 percent of our calls to our Customer Solutions group were for track and trace information,” said Kathleen Regan, vice president, eBusiness Development. “With CLS, customers have the power to independently gather information about their shipments without our assistance and customize reports to their needs. This gives our Customer Solutions team more time to proactively monitor shipments to ensure BNSF service consistently meets our customers’ expectations.”
To use CLS, customers can go to the MyBNSF page on the BNSF Web site at bnsf.com and register for the CLS tool. Then a BNSF representative will follow up with the customer for a quick tutorial and training.
“The goal of CLS, as with all of our eTools, is to make BNSF easier to do business with,” said Don Harrison, general director, eBusiness and Marketing Systems. “CLS will help BNSF become more integrated with our customers’ supply chains so that we can serve as a true transportation partner.”
A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE: BNI), BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF is an industry leader in Web-enabling a wide variety of customer transactions. The railway moves more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world, is America’s largest grain-hauling railroad, and hauls enough coal to generate more than 11 percent of the electricity produced in the United States.
