BNSF Elects Two Board Members

FORT WORTH, Texas, September 11, 2001 :

The Board of Directors of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (BNSF) (NYSE: BNI) today announced the election of Alan L. Boeckmann, 52, president and chief operating officer of Fluor Corporation, and Marc F. Racicot, 53, a Partner with Bracewell & Patterson, L.L.P., Washington, D.C., to its Board, increasing membership to 14 people. The appointments are effective September 14, 2001.

Mr. Racicot is a former Governor (1993-2001) and Attorney General (1988-1993) of the State of Montana. He focuses his legal practice on government relations and public policy resolution.

Mr. Boeckmann, who joined Fluor – an international engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance company – in 1979, became president, Fluor Chemicals, Plastics and Fibers in 1994; group president, Energy and Chemicals in 1996; and president and chief executive officer, Fluor Daniel, Inc., in 1999; and president and chief operating officer, Fluor Corporation, in February 2001.

In making the announcement, Matthew K. Rose, BNSF President and Chief Executive Officer, said that “It is important at this time that we continue to expand the range of leadership experience on our Board so that BNSF can further benefit from innovation and new thinking. I am confident that Alan and Marc, along with our other 12 Board members, will continue to help guide us to become the ‘best in class’ in the transportation industry.”
