48 Additional Intermodal Rates Posted to BNSF's Web Site

FORT WORTH, Texas, January 3, 2002:

The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today posted rates to its Internet site for an additional 48 intermodal lanes—now giving shippers access to public prices for a total of 250 BNSF lanes. Posted at www.bnsf.com/business/iabu, these rates are the only domestic and full truckload rates BNSF offers in these lanes. BNSF first posted ramp-to-ramp intermodal rates on the Internet in July 2001.

“Judging from our Web site statistics and the number of shippers using the Internet rates, the transportation community is responding well to this new, easy-to-use resource to help them get the most value from their transportation dollar,” said Ed Zajac, BNSF assistant vice president, IMC and Truckload Marketing. “Shippers who can organize their drayage and agree to terms outlined in BNSF’s Intermodal Service User Agreement, now have direct access to conducting rail transactions with BNSF.”

A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE: BNI), BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. In 2001, BNSF moved more than 3.5 million containers and trailers through its extensive network of 35 intermodal hubs, making it the largest intermodal carrier in the world.
