BNSF Diverse Business Enterprise Team To Participate in Entrepreneur Expo March 1
FORT WORTH, Texas, February 27, 2002 :
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) will participate in Entrepreneur Expo March 1 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
BNSF’s Diverse Business Enterprise team helps minority-owned, women-owned, and small business enterprises expand their relationships with BNSF through new sourcing approaches and technology.
Initiatives include an online supplier verification form available on the Internet at http://www.bnsf.com/about_bnsf/supplier/DBE_WSVF.html. A rail-industry first, the online certification process makes it easier for diverse suppliers to do business with BNSF.
“The Diverse Business Enterprise program is an integral part of BNSF’s corporate diversity initiatives and our sourcing strategy,” says Jeff Campbell, BNSF’s vice president and chief sourcing officer.
“As part of the program, BNSF sourcing representatives are attending trade shows, expositions and other events to draw the attention of diverse suppliers to opportunities at BNSF. The group also works with BNSF buyers to promote awareness of diverse business enterprises as potential suppliers and contractors for a variety of goods and services.”
A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE: BNI), BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,000 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF is an industry leader in Web-enabling a wide variety of customer and supplier transactions. The railway moves more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world, is America’s largest grain-hauling railroad, and transports enough coal to generate more than 10 percent of the electricity produced in the United States.
