Agricultural Products Network Update for Friday, December 20, 2019

Date
Dec 20, 2019

This is our last Network Update in 2019. We wish all our customers a very safe and happy holiday season. Our next Network Update will be delivered on January 3, 2020.

Operational Performance
The operation is generating strong overall performance going into the final holiday weeks of 2019. Average velocity for both cars and trains is currently running at our highest levels of the year. Total trains held has been reduced by nearly half versus the average level from last month as well as the previous December.

Earlier this week, we experienced some train delays near Emporia, Kansas as well as at our busy Argentine rail yard in Kansas City. Ongoing track repair work at Argentine has caused some congestion and limited production. Crews are making progress in completing repairs, and we expect operating conditions at the yard to improve through the weekend and into next week.

BNSF operating teams have worked aggressively during this peak shipping season to effectively balance resources with train flows and to restore service quickly in response to service interruptions, including frequent winter weather during the past several weeks. The network remains in the best condition it has ever been, and we are focused on delivering even greater velocity and improved efficiencies going into the new year.

Christmas and New Year's Operating Plan
Throughout the Christmas and New Year's holiday period, BNSF will remain focused on keeping the grain network performing to meet demand. BNSF will observe the Christmas holiday on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25. With Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day as shuttle holidays, impacted customers may request to move official spot times.

Christmas Holiday
Empty Shuttles
Customers with empty trains arriving at the loading facility after 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, may elect to move their official spot time to 6 a.m. Thursday, December 26. During this time frame, trains may be loaded if desired.

Loaded Shuttles
Customers with loaded trains arriving at an unload facility after 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, may elect to move their official spot time to 6 a.m. Thursday, December 26. During this time frame, trains may be unloaded if desired.

New Year's Holiday
Empty Shuttles
Customers with empty trains arriving at the loading facility after 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, may elect to move their official spot time to 6 a.m. Thursday, January 2. During this time frame, trains may be loaded if desired.

Loaded Shuttles
Customers with loaded trains arriving at an unload facility after 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, may elect to move their official spot time to 6 a.m. Thursday, January 2. During this time frame, trains may be unloaded if desired.

Whether empty or loaded, customers who elect to move their spot time must contact BNSF Grain Operations at least eight hours in advance and advise of their intentions for train, power and crew planning purposes.

There are no allowances beyond the time frames specified. Origination Efficiency Payment (OEP) or Destination Efficiency Payment (DEP) will be lost if customer(s) elect to operate outside of these allowances.

Carload service will not be curtailed due to the holidays, however, BNSF plans to minimize the number of yard, local and road-switch assignments at terminals during the holidays consistent with customer activity and volume demand. Connecting carriers who have reduced operations for the holidays may cause delays on interline traffic.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Favorable operating conditions are expected across much of the BNSF network during the upcoming holiday week. No significant service interruptions due to weather are expected at this time.
