Routing Guides

BNSF and its connecting rail carriers have enhanced our carload services by identifying the most efficient locations for interchanging traffic. These service enhancements are the result of cooperative research completed by BNSF and our connecting carriers service design teams. The major benefits created by these improvements include:

  • Reduced transit time. Some traffic will realize transit time reductions of one or more days.
  • Consistent service. One objective of these enhancements is to reduce the number of times a load has to connect to another train. By eliminating these connections, we are able to limit the opportunities for error which result in a more consistent, seamless service.
  • Greater capacity. By increasing the overall speed of the interline network, BNSF and its connecting partners are able to handle more traffic with the same amount of resources.

Here are the major rail carriers that have interchange agreements with BNSF. To determine how to route your interline traffic, please select the corporate logo of the appropriate connecting carrier.
