Load and Ride Solutions

Our mission is to promote a safe, fluid and damage-free transportation network for the benefit of our customers, communities and BNSF Railway.

History

Damage Prevention Services was formed in the late 1960's to provide safe loads, customer assistance and a better shipping environment. During the 1980's and 1990's synergies realized from railroad mergers allowed us to recommend cost effective loading and securement methods for our customers that matched our greatly improved ride quality. In 2002 DPS was re-engineered to the Load and Ride Solutions Team (LARS) offering an integrated, leading-edge approach at solving customer's loss, damage and security concerns.

Major Functions:

Safety - Responsible for safe transportation of all commodities moving in closed railcars & intermodal equipment.

Customer Assistance - Develop safe and economical loading/bracing  methods and provide on-site training/seminars to assist customers. See the links below for additional assistance.

( Loading Assistance -- LARS Intermodal Loading Guide -- Intermodal Coiled Metal Shipments)

Distressed Loads - Work with customers to prevent movement of unsafe loads,  expedite load adjustments to reduce shipment delays, minimize lading damage and initiate customer follow-up to prevent recurrence.

Derailments / Accidents - Supervise load transfer and disposition of lading involved in train accidents.

Hazardous Materials - Fully trained OSHA Level A responders to handle unintentional release of hazardous materials.

Ride Quality Testing - Monitor shipments during train and yard handling to eliminate train accidents, equipment and lading damage.

Product Recovery - Point of contact for customers to report freight loss and damage, negotiate disposition of derailed or damaged cargo and request damage prevention assistance. (Call 800-333-4686 for assistance.)
