Canine Police
The
BNSF Police Canine Teams have gained widespread recognition and support.
There are many services that police canine teams provide that help the
Police Team. Some include:
-
Crime deterrent - often the mere presence of a canine unit will encourage
criminals to relocate their operations.
-
Expedite train searches.
-
Personal protection of the canine handler and team members.
-
Increased officer safety.
-
Presence of canine teams at intermodal facilities have significantly
reduced the number of reported thefts at these locations.
-
Discourage trespassers.
BNSF Police canine
teams are highly trained. Each team completes a rigorous three
week training course in Bakersfield, CA, then one week in the field with
a BNSF Canine Field Training Officer. This training continues through
scheduled monthly, weekly, and daily training routines, as well as biannual
re-certification and quarterly training sessions.
