Defensive Tactics
The
BNSF Railway Resource Protection
Solutions Team has certified instructors responsible for training police
officers in 28 states and two Canadian provinces. The instructors
train and certify BNSF police officers in the following defensive tactics
disciplines:
HANDCUFFING: Three basic handcuffing techniques are taught
to all officers with three levels of subject control.
BATON: Resource Protection Solutions Team (RPT) officers are
not mandated to carry a baton. Those who carry batons must be trained,
certified and pass a re-certification course each year.
HANDGUN RETENTION: The Training Solutions Team draws on
several methods of handgun retention, including the Lindell Method.
All instructors are re-certified in handgun retention annually.
OC SPRAY: RPST policy requires all team members to carry
OC Spray. All officers are trained and certified each year.
EDGED WEAPONS DEFENSE: The RPST philosophy and training
for edged weapons defense is to disengage from the attack and give the
officer time and distance to tactically react to the situation.
TRAINING SCENARIOS: RPST officers receive training that
duplicate real-life situations encountered while working in a railroad
environment. These scenarios include use of force, officer tactics,
cover and concealment, decision making, and officer safety.
