Crawford Awarded for Being "On Guard"
Recently, vigilance and being proactive helped keep a BNSF rail yard safe, and a couple of juveniles out of danger.
While preparing for a job briefing the south end of Temple (Texas) Yard, Assistant Roadmaster Demitrius Crawford at Gulf Division noticed something out of place in the terminal -- two juveniles running east across the property toward live tracks in Remote Control Locomotive limits.
Crawford tried to get their attention, but was unable to. So he asked another employee to radio the bottom west and bottom east yard jobs to notify them that a couple of juveniles were within their working limits.
When the juveniles returned, Crawford informed them about the dangers of being around moving equipment and that they were trespassing on private property.
After detaining them and contacting Resource Protection, Crawford remained with the juveniles until Temple police and railroad authorities arrived.
After further investigation, it was learned that both juveniles were truants from Temple High School . Authorities booked them for interference with railroad property.
For his quick thinking and actions, BNSF’s Resource Protection Solutions Team awarded Crawford an On Guard pin for his efforts to apprehend trespassers.
