RPST Warns Against Graffiti
The threat of violence or terrorist activity can be as unsettling as an actual event. Recently, a railcar traveled on BNSF out of Houston with a message of a potential terrorist activity, and in a separate incident, a violent message was written on a bad-order tag.
"It is urgent to have inflammatory, suggestive terrorist-related messages reported to BNSF’s Resource Operations Command Center (ROCC) at 1-800-832-5452 so we can have the car and threatening message assessed quickly and take steps to eradicate the threat," says Heileman.
If an employee sees this type of vandalism and threatening message, they should call the ROCC. With this knowledge, the car will be checked, and the nearest Mechanical team can spray paint over the offending message, making it no longer legible. "Following this correction, BNSF will contact the car owner for permanent resolution," says Bob Stremcha, director, Cars, Fort Worth .
As part of BNSF’s On Guard program, employees should report this type of activity as well as other safety and security concerns. Proactive On Guard behavior includes checking someone’s identification; reporting trespassers and crimes in progress on BNSF property; and checking trains, loads and facilities. Remember; do not place yourself in danger. Employees should report suspicious activities to the ROCC by calling 1-800-832-5452.
"For obvious reasons, it would be undesirable to allow a car with this type of veiled threat to move freely over BNSF lines," says Bill Heileman, BNSF general director, Police and Protection Solutions, Fort Worth .
