Railroad Police Officer
Duties and Responsibilities of the BNSF Railway Police Officer
As BNSF Railway police officers we protect and safeguard company assets including BNSF employees, equipment, contractors, infrastructure, information, and customer lading. Railroad Police have the primary responsibility of investigating and arresting violators that commit crimes on or against railroad property. BNSF Railway Police are actively involved in innovative crime prevention activities, trespass abatement and coordinate responses to railroad incidents and emergencies.


Homeland Security and public safety is a priority for the BNSF Police. We regularly network and coordinate with city, county, state and federal agencies as active partners in America's protection and vigilance. Our homeland security duties also include educating the BNSF workforce and the public with industry leading awareness programs such as BNSF’s On Guard, Citizens for Rail Security and e-Railsafe.
Employment Standards for Railroad Police Officers
Applicants must be 21 years of age and complete a comprehensive police background investigation to include a medical evaluation. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license in the state of assignment and have a history of working and driving safely. Applicants must have successfully completed an accredited basic police academy. Prior law enforcement experience and some college is preferred. The applicant must meet standards established for commissioning in the state of assignment and successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening test.
