UPDATE: Carta Porte 3.0 Logic for Compliance Update Starting October 1, 2024
The Mexican Tax Authority (SAT) will make the following change for compliance starting October 1, 2024.
The following data point will no longer be required starting October 1, 2024:
- Mexico Tariff Rate Code (MTC) will no longer be required on loaded shipments into Mexico.
BNSF is working to update our systems to remove the MTC requirement on Carta Porte information collected via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) as well as in our Shipping Instructions application. BNSF will still accept MTC numbers, but they will not be validated. More information about Carta Porte requirements can be found in the AAR Carta Porte Supplement.
Failure to comply with Carta Porte rules may result in shipping delays or rejection at interchanges with Mexican railroads.
If you have questions about Carta Porte, please contact your BNSF marketing representative or BNSF Customer Support via Message Us or call (888) 428-2673 (when prompted, say “Mexico Customs”).
