BNSF’s Intermodal Christmas and New Year’s operating plan will remain focused on meeting customers’ expectations while matching operations to rail volumes. This year, BNSF will observe the Christmas holiday on Friday, December 24, and Saturday, December 25, and the New Year’s holiday on Friday, December 31, and Saturday, January 1, 2022.
The number of trains operating on BNSF track is typically lower over the Christmas and New Year's holidays due to reduced freight volume. BNSF's Intermodal holiday operating plan will adjust operations to account for this potential reduction in traffic. As a result, shipments from Friday, December 24, through Monday, January 3, 2022, may experience delays of approximately 24 to 48 hours. Connecting carriers who have reduced operations for the holidays may cause delays on interline traffic.
INTERMODAL FACILITY OPERATIONS
All BNSF Intermodal hubs will observe normal working hours during the holiday period. As a reminder, BNSF will add a standard $150 credit for every unit that outgates on a BNSF storage holiday (as defined in BNSF’s Intermodal R&PG) from any BNSF-operated intermodal facility (Group 1 or 2). Storage credits can be accessed and applied to any unit at any BNSF facility via the Storage Credit Tool at BNSF.com
