Management Trainee - Mechanical

Location Opportunities exist at multiple locations across the BNSF System.
Primary Duties &
Responsibilities
This is a 6- to 12-month program. The first month is a comprehensive orientation with corporate officers, followed by an assignment to a mechanical facility on the BNSF system. This assignment will include:
  • Two to three months - service track and repair shop completing orientation with craftspeople and supervisors, as well as performing supervisor duties. Other functions will include orientation into safety certification, warranty procedures, World Class Maintenance, Computer Based Maintenance, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Bad Actor Program, Contract Maintenance and Foreign Billing, Audit Procedures and railroad computer applications.
  • Two to three months - Technical Training both in the field and at our Technical Training Center in Overland Park. Classes will consist of EMD and GE Mechanical Basics, locomotive electrical and air brake systems, trainyard inspection and rip track.
  • One month with Ft. Worth staff groups including, locomotive, car, contract, air brake, quality and reliability engineering, quality audit, mechanical engineering, safety, lean manufacturing, budget, equipment operations, locomotive utilization desk and facility engineering.
  • One month - Other Departments/Groups, Trainmaster, Yardmaster, Roadmaster, Resource Protection, Claims, Road Foreman of Engines, Car Shop rip track and trainyard, Field Superintendent, Derailment cleanup, Intermodal Yard, Backshop, and Commuter Service.
Qualifications Applicants must have a Bachelors Degree in either Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or an MBA with emphasis in Engineering. Must have strong leadership skills with excellent oral and written communication skills. Must possess a GPA of 3.0 or above. A current grade transcript must be produced at time of interview. Applicants should be flexible about their work location assignment.  
Working Conditions Office and field environment. Minimum 40-hour work week. 24/7 Operation; night, weekend, and holiday work required.
