BNSF Names Wise Vice President, Network Strategy

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 8, 2010:

Dean Wise has been named vice president, Network Strategy, responsible for BNSF Railway Company's Haulage Management, Interline Management, Network Strategy Development, Public-Private Partnerships and Short Line Business Development functions, effective Feb. 1, 2010. He will report to Matt Rose, chairman, president and chief executive officer. Wise succeeds Pete Rickershauser who will retire on April 30, 2010.

"BNSF and the rail industry has benefitted from Pete's vast industry knowledge amassed throughout his 40-year career in this industry. He has done an outstanding job managing the increasingly complex strategic details of the railroad's network reach and BNSF relationships with our interline connections. We wish him well in his retirement," said Rose. "We were fortunate to identify such a strong successor. Dean brings a wealth of experience and transportation knowledge to our company, and we are pleased to have him become part of the BNSF team."

Rickershauser began his railroad career with several Conrail predecessor railroads; he also worked for both Norfolk Southern and Southern Pacific. He joined BNSF in 1996 as vice president, Marketing, and moved into his current position in 1999.

Wise joins BNSF from Norbridge, Inc., a recognized consultancy in the freight, transport and logistics industry where he is a partner. Prior to joining Norbridge, Wise served as vice president for Mercer Management Consulting, now Oliver Wyman, responsible for its North American surface transportation consulting practice. Wise's prior experience also included management positions at Temple Barker & Sloane, Inc., Conrail, and Southern Pacific Transportation Company. Wise holds an A.B. degree (Bachelor of Arts) from Colgate University and a master's degree from Harvard University.

A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE:BNI), BNSF Railway Company operates one of the largest North American rail networks, with about 32,000 route miles in 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF is among the world's top transporters of intermodal traffic, moves more grain than any other American railroad, carries the components of many of the products we depend on daily, and hauls enough low-sulfur coal to generate about ten percent of the electricity produced in the United States. BNSF is an industry leader in Web-enabling a variety of customer transactions at www.bnsf.com.
