ABWR operates the former Jefferson Warrior Railroad consisting of 15 miles of track through an industrial complex in North Birmingham. The line is owned by Walter Industries and leased to Watco as of August 2009. The primary customer is the Sloss Industries' coke facility, a subsidiary of Walter Industries. BNSF connects to ABWR at the Lehigh Yard. CSX and NS also interchange with ABWR in its Birmingham yard. The shortline derives its name from the Black Warrior River in West Central Alabama and was originally launched in 1900 as the Mary Lee Railroad.
