Manufacturers Junction Railway (MJ)
Overview
MJ owns and operates over 6 miles of trackage. The railroad was incorporated to serve the former Western Electric Hawthorne Works, a primary producer of telephones and related equipment. Although a portion of the Hawthorne plant was converted into retail space, the majority was redeveloped into a business center, including MJ customers Phelps Dodge Copper Products, Schillinger Salt, World Distribution and an intermodal ramp.
