Sierra Northern Railway (SERA)

Overview

SERA operates 75 miles of track in Northern California and serves a number of industrial areas in the state. SERA operates the branches of the Sierra Railroad which was built in 1897 from Oakdale to Railtown. The short line acquired the former Yolo Shortline Railroad in 2003 and interchanges with the both the UP and BNSF. SERA's principal commodities consist of lumber and forest products. Sierra Railroad also operates the Sierra Dinner Train and the Sacramento River Train. SERA acquired the Riverbank to Oakdale line from BNSF in late 2008.
