Andy Williams, BNSF director of public affairs, said "We have a long history of supporting organizations like the YMCA - and we are particularly happy to be helping the Y in Grand Island. We know that it will use the money to provide services that will benefit the entire city and surrounding communities."

The BNSF Railway Foundation contributes each year to organizations in communities along its 32,000 mile network. Last year the Foundation contributed more than $200,000 to organizations in Nebraska.

"This is the season for giving and (this grant) is giving to lots of kids in Grand Island and thousands of families," said Michael Fergen of the YMCA board. "Thank (BNSF) for (their) heart in the season of giving."

Thanks to charitable contributions like BNSF's grant, the Grand Island YMCA is one step closer to paying for its new roof that promises lower energy bills and no leaks.
